Field Hockey - Girls

Introduction

Field Hockey, a popular sport on both coasts and in the southern part of the United States, has gained in popularity in the Chicagoland area.  At Saint Ignatius, the girl’s field hockey program has grown in skill and numbers and includes both Varsity and JV.  Both Varsity and JV teams compete in a highly competitive Chicago league and play against both public and Catholic high schools throughout Chicago and its suburbs.

Our coaches strive to emphasize teamwork, build character among our athletes, and expand their leadership skills.  Played in the fall, we welcome both new and experienced players to this exciting sport!

Coaching Staff

  • Allison Heraty — Varsity Head Coach
  • Katherine Druley-Herron — Varsity Assistant Coach
  • Peggy Cooney — Varsity Assistant Coach

Club Sport

Field Hockey is a club sport at Saint Ignatius.  It has this designation because fewer than 10% of the Illinois high schools currently sponsor field hockey teams at their schools.  Because it is a club sport, all players will be responsible for paying club fees in order to participate on the team.  Club managers communicate all fees and responsibilities at the beginning of the season.  There will be a small amount of club fee assistance available.  Confidential requests should be directed to our team treasurer, Sue Plomin at splomin@gmail.com

All players must have an IHSA approved physical on file with the Athletic Department on the first day of tryouts in the fall.  All Athletic Department rules will be followed by the Field Hockey program.  A copy of the necessary IHSA paperwork can be found on the Ignatius website, Athletics Home Page, under quick links.
