Varsity 4+ Medals Twice at Speakmon
10/17/2011 - Varsity

This past weekend the Wolfpack traveled to Columbus, OH to race in the Head of the Speakmon. The Boys V4+, made up of Brian Hansen, Ben Oleniczak, Peter Voss, Billy Fitzsimmons and Lucas Gonzalez, put forth an incredibly impressive day.  Racing in both the high school 4+ event and the open (collegiate) 4+ event, the boys raced in two 3-mile races, with start times less than an hour apart.  In the high school 4+ event, the boys took 3rd place, earning a bronze medal with a time of 17:37, 27, seconds faster than the 4th place crew from Westerville (OH).  After crossing the finish line in the high school event, the boys turned around and rowed immediately back to the starting line without returning to land.  While a head wind had picked up significantly since the start of the high school event, the boys were able to pull a time of 17:45.  They passed four boats on their way to winning a gold medal.  They beat the 2nd place crew from the University of Dayton by 19 seconds.

Varsity 8+ Takes 3rd in Green Bay
10/04/2011 - Varsity

This past weekend the Pack traveled north to Green Bay, WI for some very competitive racing. The only high school team in attendance, Ignatius varsity boys put out valiant efforts against junior "club" teams - local rowing teams that draw from many different schools.  The most notable effort came from the Men's Varsity 8+, coxed by senior Brian Hansen, and rowers Owen Skelding, Peter Voss, Ben Oleniczak, Lucas Gonzalez, Andrew Isaacson, Cameren DeCaluwe, Billy Fitzsimmons and Billy Hrabak.  The 8+ pulled a time of 11:49.1, just 2.2 seconds off of 2nd place Lincoln Park Juniors and 11.6 seconds off of 1st place Camp Randall.  For the Varsity 4+ event, Will Dire coxed the V4+ made up of Skelding, Voss, Oleniczak and Gonzalez to a 2nd place finish, only 1.7 seconds off of the 1st place boat from Camp Randall.  The V4+ of Fitzsimmons, DeCaluwe, Isaacson, Hrabak and coxswain Sydney Green continued to pick up speed over the last two weeks, having their fastest race of the season, good enough for just 3 seconds off of their counterparts from Camp Randall's 2nd V4+ which took 3rd place in the event.

Varsity 8+ Medals in Ohio
09/26/2011 - Varsity

For the first time since the Spring of 2005, Ignatius Varsity Boys 8+ took home medals from a regatta in Ohio.  The Wolfpack pulled a 17:09, good for a 2nd place finish, edging out a familiar foe, Upper Arlington (OH), by 5 seconds.  That time was also fast enough to top boats from Ann Arbor Pioneer (MI), Ann Arbor Huron (MI), Ann Arbor Skyline (MI) and St. John Jesuit (OH).  The crew was comprised of Owen Skelding, Peter Voss, Ben Oleniczak, Lucas Gonzalez, Andrew Isaacson, Cameren DeCaluwe Billy Fitzsimmons, Billy Hrabak and coxswain Brian Hansen. The stern and bow fours of the 8+ were broken up for the Varsity Boys 4+ event.  The V4+ of Skelding, Voss, Oleniczak and Gonzalez were led down the course by coxswain Will Dire for a time of 18:30, good enough for 1st place by 26 seconds over the 2nd place boat from Upper Arlington. The other V4+ made up of Fitzsimmons, DeCaluwe, Isaacson, Hrabak and coxswain Sydney Green took an impressive 5th place out of 26 boats, beating the top fours of crews from 11 other programs.

Wolfpack Open Fall Season
09/19/2011 - Varsity

Varsity 4+ opened their fall season with a victory as the Pack traveled to Milwaukee, WI this weekend for the Milwaukee River Challenge. Leading the way for the team was the Men's Varsity 4+ of Owen Skelding, Peter Voss, Ben Oleniczak and Lucas Gonzalez.  The boat pulled a time of 18:18, good enough to win its event by 18 seconds over Camp Randall.  The crew's margin of victory is directly attributable to the great course steered by senior coxswain Will Dire.
