Pack Finish Out Fall in Indiana

On a blustery day in Indianapolis, IN, the varsity girls raced to medals in every event.  The A Boat (Luchette, Oksas, A. Mroz, Kruse and Moore-cox) won the Women’s Junior 4+ A event with a time of 15:52.40, nearly 7 seconds ahead of second place.  The B boat (Simon, Austin, Campbell, Connery and Cahill-cox) won the Women’s Junior 4+ B event with a time of 16:21.90 followed by the C boat (Salazar, Zwick, Torres, Enger and San Diego-cox) in second place with a time of 17:10.50.  Racing against college crews, the lightweight 4+ (Travnik, Lyons, M. Mroz, B. Mroz and Bernardo-cox) placed second with a time of 16:24.4, just 3 seconds out of first place in the Women’s Open Lightweight 4+ event.  In the Women’s Junior 8+, ICC placed second (Simon, Salazar, Enger, Torres, Austin, Zwick, Campbell, Connery and Cahill-cox) with a time of 15:04.20.  This was the second race of the day for this crew.  The final medal was earned by Luchette, Oksas, A. Mroz, Kruse and Moore-cox rowing with the four varsity boys who raced in the Head of the Charles in the Mixed Recreational 8+.  They won with a time of 13:56.40, nearly 5 minutes ahead of second place.  It was a great effort by the entire team and closes out the fall season.

At the 47th Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, MA on the scenic Charles River, the Wolfpack 4+ A boat raced against 75 other junior and scholastic crews, finishing 17th with a time of 19:46.04.  Starting in the middle of the pack in this 3-mile head race at position 32, they passed several crews while navigating six bridges.  They were the second fastest true scholastic crew in the event.  The Head of the Charles draws competition from around the world and is the largest two-day rowing regatta in the world.  With their 17th place finish, the Pack have qualified for next year’s regatta.

It was a sunny, cool day on the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, OH where the Wolfpack raced 3 miles in 25 mph winds gusting to 30 mph.  In the Women’s High School 4+ against 30 competitors, the Varsity A boat was third (bronze medal) with a time of 19:42.79.  The B boat was 10th with a time of 20.41.82 followed by the C boat placing 18th with a time of 21:49.85.  Racing in the Women’s Open Lightweight 4+ event, the Varsity Lightweight 4+ was 1st (gold medal), defeating the second place boat by a full minute with a time of 21:12.37.  Returning to the water in less than an hour, the varsity girls raced in the Women’s High School 8+ event against 24 competitors with the A boat coming in 7th with a time of 18:36.70.  The B boat was 13th with a time of 19:07. 85.  Next week, the Varsity 4+ A boat will travel to Boston, MA to compete in the prestigious Head of the Charles.  The remainder of the crew will compete in Skokie, IL against Loyola Academy in the First Jesuit Cup on October 22nd.

Bronze Medal for Varsity Lightweight 4+

The Pack raced under ideal conditions at the Head of the Rock Regatta on Sunday against traditional rivals from the Midwest.  The top performance for the varsity was in the Women’s Open Lightweight 4+ (Maddie Travnik, Anna Lyons, Morgan Mroz, Briggs Mroz and Monica Bernardo- Coxswain) where they raced to a third place finish for the bronze medal with a time for the 3-mile course of 19:51.50.  There were timing issues in this event.  These tough girls defeated colleges racing in this event.  In the Women’s Junior 4+ event, ICC entered 4 boats with the A boat finishing 4th with a time of 19:05.84.  The B boat was 8th at 19:52.04; D boat was 9th at 20:07.87, and the C boat was 12th at 20:14.93 of 20 competitors.  In the Women’s Junior 8+, ICC took 7th with a time of 18:01.23 behind traditional rivals New Trier (1st), LPJ, Loyola and Camp Randall.

After a 2 ½ hour fog delay, the Varsity girls crew got off to a great start at the Frogtown Races in Toledo, OH, winning the Women’s High School 2nd Varsity 8+.  They lead by 7 seconds ahead of 13 crews with a time of 19:43.38 over the 3-mile course on the Maumee River.  The 2nd Varsity 8+ was ecstatic with their victory, having passed 4 crews by the halfway point.  The 1st Varsity 8+ placed 5th with a time of 19:33.36, 11 seconds behind the leader in a field of 12 entries.  In the afternoon, the A Boat 4+ kept the success going, winning the Women’s High School 4+ event over a field of 28 entries with a time of 20:21.79.  The B boat 4+ was 7th with a time of 21:05.06 and the C boat placed 20th with a time of 22:18.65.  This was the second 3-mile race for these girls who all rowed well in an increasing headwind.  The Lightweight 4+, in their first time in this lineup, crushed the competition, winning the Women’s High School Lightweight 4+ with a time of 20:58.41, 86 seconds ahead of second place.  They raced at 34 strokes per minute and finished at 37 in the sprint to the finish line.  This was their second race of the day also.  It was an outstanding performance for the whole varsity squad.


Pack Start Fall Season

Under sunny skies with a strong headwind, the Wolfpack raced Saturday in the Milwaukee River Challenge in Milwaukee, WI.  In the first regatta of the Fall Head Racing Season, the Varsity girls A boat (Julia Kruse, Austin Mroz, Christine Oksas, Katie Luchette and Kaileigh Moore-Coxswain) won the Junior Women’s  4+ event with a time of 20:13.14, four seconds ahead of Milwaukee Rowing Club and 18 seconds ahead of New Trier.  The B boat came in 7th at 21:07.68; the C boat was 9th   at 21:35.08; and the D boat was 11th   with a time of 22:39.76.  This was a great performance in their first competition.  In the second 2.7 mile race of the day for these girls, the Varsity 8+ came in 4th and the JV 8+ was 10th in the Junior Women’s  Eight event with a time of 19:32.20 and 20:23.59 respectively.  This showing bodes well for our next regatta on September 24th in Toledo, OH at the Frogtown Races.
