The Wolfpack won the 10-team IHSA Regional on Saturday in Washington Park. Alexis Jakubowski was the Regional champ with a convincing 26-second victory. Emily Bridges (3rd) and Jill Porretta (4th) both achieved personal bests to join Jakubowski on the All-Regional team. Andrea Bonaccorsi (9th) and Emily Brennan (10th) completed the team scoring for the Wolfpack. Sarah Devitt (16th) and Helen Roach (19th) increased the margin of victory by defeating the fifth runner of all opponents.

A runner-up finish by Alexis Jakubowski highlighted the Wolfpack's 3rd place showing at the 13-team GCAC Championship. Emily Brennan (9th), Kelly Kohler (13th) and Jill Porretta also earned All-GCAC honors. Emily Bridges (17th), Andrea Bonaccorsi (21st) and Maggie Connolly (28th) completed the team score which was one point more than second place Mother McAuley.

The Pack placed all seven runners in the top 13 but that wasn't enough to defeat Loyola who swept the first three places and defeated the Wolfpack 27-31 for the GCAC Championship. Sarah Devitt (4th) led the team. Helen Roach (5th), Kirstyn Ruiz (6th), Clare Egan (7th), Madeleine Hauck (9th), Laura Kurek (11th) and Mary McNulty (13th) all medaled and contributed to the runner-up finish.

Boulger Wins Open Division at GCAC

Senior Erin Boulger won the Open Race at the GCAC Championship. Riley Barsella (3rd), Cara Zadeik (4th), Elly Hayn (6th) and Isabel Irvine (8th) joined her to create the winning team score. Jenny Divincenzo, Xitlalic Soto-Sida, Jackie Sweeney and Caroline McGowan also earned ribbons while Katie Oksas, Mallory Fitzpatrick, Meg Keane, Jordan Harris, Christine Betterman, Natalia Galant, Larissa May, Kelly Riley, Alexandra Browne, Tara Lanigan, Michell Lewandowski, Jennie O'Donaghue, Ellen Richkus, Hannah Morkin, Margaret Cullen-Conway and Megan van Breemen established new PRs.

Wolfpack Win Doris Smith Invite

The Pack raced to five top-10 finishes to win at Saint Scholastica. All five runners finished within five seconds of each other. Kirstyn Ruiz (4th) sprinted past teammates near the finish to lead the team. Clare Egan (6th), Laura Kurek (7th), Mary McNulty (8th) and Isabel Irvine (10th) were all just steps behind Ruiz. Irvine dropped 19 seconds off her career best 3-mile time.

Pack Take Home Title at St. Scholastica

The Wolfpack won the Saint Scholastica Invite with a huge comeback in the last two minutes of the race. All five of the Wolfpack runners passed at least one opponent to erase Loyola's 10-point lead. Cara Zadeik (3rd), Katie Oksas (5th) and Caroline Herman (7th) led the way. Roisin Goebelbecker (8th) moved up from 13th and Caroline McGowan (9th) moved up from 11th to complete the win. Madeline Giella also contributed to the team score by defeating the 5th runner from all of the other teams.

The largest race of the day was also the most challenging since the team didn't have time to warm up or learn the course. Meg Keane dropped 50 seconds from her previous best to finish 9th in a field of 82 runners. Marissa Ruiz, Mallory Fitzpatrick, Kathleen Rocks and Cora Byrne also finished in the top 15. Keane, Rocks, Erin Egan, Tara Lanigan and Jennie O'Donaghue improved upon their career-best times by at least 20 seconds.

Wolfpack Win Niles West

The Wolfpack won the 36-team Niles West invite on Saturday. As the fourth race of the day, varsity times were slow since the entire course turned to mud after the first few races. Nonetheless, Alexis Jakubowski (6th), Emily Brennan (9th), Jill Porretta (15th), Kelly Kohler (20th), Maggie Connolly (24th) and Sarah Devitt (50th) all managed top-50 finishes in a field of 286 finishers. Seventh runner Helen Roach was 57th. Riley Barsella, Madeleine Hauck, Elizabeth Hayn, Kirstyn Ruiz and Jackie Sweeney also neared or equaled PRs on a course that wasn't running fast.

By the time the last race began at Niles West, the course was mostly mud. The Wolfpack took advantage of the conditions as the team finished second. Cara Zadeik moved up steadily throughout the race and finished second. Andjela Cirko (9th), Danielle Joyer (10th), Hannah Brennan (13th) and Sylvia Edoigiawerie (14th) had great finishes to lead the team. Emma Mora Fitzgerald had the biggest time drop of the day after losing her shoes in the mud and going back to get them since the meet timing chip was tied to her laces.

The Wolfpack finished 8th in the Midwest Catholic Championships near Dayton, Ohio. Alexis Jakubowski led the team with her 18th place finish in a field of 151 finishers. Emily Bridges (31st), Jill Porretta (42nd), Kelly Kohler (56th) and Maggie Connolly (63rd) completed the team scoring. Helen Roach managed a 30-second PR on the tough, muddy course. The meet allowed each school to enter two varsity teams. Our second varsity squad finished 6th among the second teams.

The Pack finished a strong 3rd in the Midwest Catholic Championships near Dayton, Ohio, losing only to two teams that used their second varsity squad in the JV race. Olivia Meyer was 7th in a field of 304 finishers to lead the team. Erin Boulger (23rd), Mary McNulty (24th), Kirstyn Ruiz (28th) and Riley Barsella (37th) joined Meyer in the team scoring. Andjela Cirko, Roisin Goebelbecker, Caroline McGowan, Katie Oksas and Jackie Sweeney all recorded PRs on a muddy, hilly course that didn't result in many fast times.

Clare Egan (2nd in a 3-mile PR of 20:50) led the F/S team to second place in our inaugural home invite at Midlothian Meadows. Kirstryn Ruiz (7th), Mary McNulty (9th), Olivia Meyer (10th in a PR of 21:42) and Clare Sullivan (15th in a PR of 21:59) completed the team’s score. Andjela Cirko, Erin Egan, Mallory Fitzpatrick, Madeline Giella, Roisin Goebelbecker, Jessica Helon, Caroline McGowan, Katie Oksas and Kelly Riley also improved their times from the last meet.

The Pack won their first annual invite with depth. Once again Jennifer White (2nd) and Alexis Jakubowski (4th) led the team. The next six Wolfpack runners cemented the victory by staying together. Emily Bridges (9th), Emily Brennan (13th), Andrea Bonaccorsi (14th), Jill Porretta (15th), Maggie Connolly (17th) and Kelly Kohler (19th) led the way. Abby Grohmann, Sarah Devitt, Helen Roach, Bridget Hybinette and Jackie Sweeney recorded PRs as well.

Jennifer White (16th in 18:08 for 3 miles) ran the third best time of her career to lead the Wolfpack to 15th of 27 teams at Lake Park. Alexis Jakubowski (23rd in a PR of 18:25) finished 23rd, running the 5th fastest time in school history. Andrea Bonaccorsi (19:59) ran a big PR to break into the top 25 on the school's all-time list. Laura Kurek (20:47) and Erin Boulger (21:27) completed the team score as three other varsity runners took the ACT test.

Lake Park switched the format this year to include a JV race for runners of any grade. With 16 seniors taking the ACT, the team only entered five runners in this race. The result was a solid 15th place finish in a field of 27 teams. Sarah Devitt (21:04) and Riley Barsella (21:41) led the team.

Wolfpack Win Open Meet

The new meet format at Lake Park included an open 2-mile race which included team competition. Like many of the suburban schools in the field, we entered 50 runners in this race. Jill Porretta (12:41) used a big sprint in the last 50 meters to get her second win in a row, beating a field of 469 finishers. Maggie Connolly (4th in 13:05), Helen Roach (10th in 13:29), Kirstyn Ruiz (12th in 13:33), Olivia Meyer (17th in 13:40), Mary McNulty (24th in 13:49) and Clare Egan (26th in 13:50) accounted for the winning score. Junior Elly Hayn (28th in 13:51) also received a top-30 award. Most of the runners saw big improvements in their 2-mile bests. Clare Sullivan (14:07), Isabel Irvine (14:09), Sylvia Edoigiawerie (14:22), Madeline Giella (14:25) Caroline Herman (14:29) and Katie Oksas (14:30) all defeated over 400 runners. Freshmen Jessica Helon, Caroline McGowan and Roisin Goebelbecker also finished in the top half of the team and the top 25% of the field.

As the heat and humidity worsened, the Wolfpack followed the F/S by winning the ICOPS Invitational on Saturday. Freshman Alexis Jakubowski led the team with her 19:24 effort, good for fourth place. Jennifer White (7th), Emily Brennan (8th), Andrea Bonnacorsi (12th in a PR of 20:35) and Emily Bridges (17th) rounded out the team score. Kelly Kohler (18th) and Laura Kurek (21st) completed the victory in the 13-team event.

Along with being the last race and worst heat index, Ignatius was challenged to top the F/S team's count of 10 finishers in the top-20. The challenge was met as the JV placed 14 runners in the top-20 to cruise to an easy win. Abby Grohmann (1st in 21:34) led the way in her first high school race. Erin Boulger (4th), Sarah Devitt (5th), Mada Hauck (6th) and Riley Barsella (9th) accounted for the team score. Other top-20 finishers were Mary Kate Skalitzky (10th), Jackie Sweeney (12th in a PR of 23:01), Elly Hayn (13th), Xitlalic Soto-Sida (14th), Bridget Hybinette (15th), Jenny Divencenzo (16th), Silvia Edoigiawerie (18th), Marissa Ruiz (19th) and Cora Byrne (20th).

Frosh/Soph Wolfpack Dominates at ICOPS

The Pack won the ICOPS Invitational in dominant fashion, scoring 17 points with 10 Wolfpack runners finishing in the top-20. Freshmen Jill Porreta (1st in 21:22 for 3 miles), Maggie Connolly (2nd) and Helen Roach (3rd) led the way. Sophomores Clare Egan (6th in her first race) and Kirstyn Ruiz (7th) rounded out the team score. Freshmen Olivia Meyer (11th), Clare Sulivan (18th) and Isabel Irvine (20th) also reached the award stand in their first high school races. They were joined by sophomore medalists Madeline Giella (16th in her first race) and Mary McNulty (17th).
