Last Season Recap
The 2011 Wolfpack football season began where the 2010 season left off. After making
the IHSA play- offs for the first time in the history of the football program, 2011
was to be a continuation of that success. Those lofty goals were not met. Instead
the 2011 season will be remembered for a beautiful summer night on the lakefront
at historic Soldier Field. That night the Wolfpack tamed the Dolphins of Whitney
Young 27-14. The home of the Chicago Bears was filled with maroon and gold and the
fans were not disappointed.
The rest of the 2011 season was not kind to the Wolfpack. The overall record was
disappointing at 2-7 as the Pack’s last game was a microcosm of the season. Played
on beautiful Saint Ignatius Athletic Field, the day was a celebration of Homecoming
and Senior Day as the Rams of Gordon Tech played the villain. Jumping out to a 28-0
lead at the end of the first quarter, things did not look good for Ignatius. Little
by little the Wolfpack fought back and with eight minutes left in the game, the
Pack had a 31-28 lead only to come up short 34-31.
But do not feel bad for these seniors as they played tough until the last tick of
the clock. Led by Chicago Catholic League Offensive Player of the Year Matt McCareins,
as well as All-CCL players Billy Lawrence, Joe Cunningham, George Doherty and Joe
Javorski, and All-CCL Academic honorees Joe Cunningham and Julie Kurek, the Pack
had many things to be proud of. The Wolfpack was also awarded the IHSA Team Academic
Award for maintaining a cumulative G.P.A of 3.2.
