Introduction
The Ignatius Wolfpack Lacrosse Club was formed in 2002 and since then has progressed into a competitive team on the field while developing young men for the rigors of life off of it. The Wolfpack compete in the Chicago Metro League in the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association. Some highlights that the team has seen since its inception has been two Academic All-Americans in 2006 and fourteen (14) First Team All-Conference players, four (4) Second Team All-Conference players and the Chicago Metro League Co-Championship in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The team looks to grow those numbers this year and beyond.

Coaching Staff
The Coaching staff consists of highly skilled and dedicated coaches that have played in college (Division I or III) or beyond. The Head Coach, Drew Stevenson, who is entering his 5th full season at the helm, has compiled a record of 43-24. Andrew McCaffrey, Head Coach of the Junior Varsity returns for his 2nd year and first year Freshman Head Coach, Andrew McMahon round out the Head Coaches. The Wolfpack also return Peter Hutchen Steven Hettrich, and Justin Smith as assistants. John Conroy rounds out the staff in his first year along with Percy Gibson and Andrew Secrist as Strength & Conditioning Coaches.

The Program
The Wolfpack lacrosse team continues to grow in numbers and strength. When Coach Stevenson took over the program 5 years ago there were 17 team members, in 2009 we have over 60 on the roster and the future looks even brighter for great growth. The Coaching staff is dedicated to delivering to the young men on the team a challenging environment that gets results.

Outside of lacrosse we demand a great deal of our young men, making academics priority #1. We stress the importance of dedication to the team and its goals along with staying committed to their academic and other extracurricular activities. We also stress off season programming to help develop skills outside of the Wolfpack team practices and games. We have many multi-sport athletes including athletes participating in soccer, hockey, football and basketball. Finally, we do offer and strongly encourage our team members to attend Ignatius lacrosse camps in the off season and/or head out east to attend lacrosse camps and be challenged by other lacrosse players in traditionally strong programs.

Spring Break
We are a spring sport and we do practice and play through spring break each season. It is recommended that players and their families contact Coach Stevenson regarding specific dates of the team’s spring break. Typically we do break for a few days however, due to scheduling conflicts it is not always the same each year. If players do miss practice or games, absences will not be excused and a lack of playing time in games will be result of missing team mandatory events.

Team Expectations
All Saint Ignatius College Prep and its Athletic Department rules are expected to be followed. Violations of these rules will be handled according to school policy.

  • All practices are mandatory. You miss practice you do not play.
  • All returning players and first year sophomore, juniors and seniors must have a IHSA approved physical on hand with the Athletic Department prior to the first day of practice in the spring.
  • Situations that arise and cause a student/athlete to miss practice or a game must be brought to the coach’s attention 1 day prior to event, if possible. Although the absence may be excused, roster depth chart may be affected.
  • Team depth charts are continually changing, based on the athlete’s performance.
  • Playing time is at the sole discretion of the coaching staff.
  • It’s a privilege to be part of the Wolfpack Lacrosse Program, all players, coaching staff, and parents are expected to demonstrate respect and honor for SICP and for the game of lacrosse. Good sportsmanship and representing the team with respect is imperative.

Off Season
The IHSLA is a three (3) month long season, however, the Program continues to work during the off season. We demand a great deal from every player and each player is expected to keep playing throughout the season while still maintaining his academic excellence, participating in other sports (down time from lacrosse is expected) if he chooses to keep your athletic conditioning, and to build upon our success from the season before. In short, if the student athlete is not currently involved with another sport, he is strongly encouraged to participate in other off season lacrosse programs.

Summer camps, either locally or elsewhere (a great deal of our boy’s travel to the east coast to play in the “hotbeds” of lacrosse) are strongly encouraged, fall and winter indoor are available both in the suburbs and the Wolfpack Program does play winter indoor at Mercy Home Indoor facility (1 mile from SICP) from November until February.
