02/22/2012  - Girls Frosh/Soph Track
Wolfpack Defeats GCAC Rival Mother McAuley

On Wednesday, the Pack competed in a triangular meet at Lyons Township against host Lyons and conference rival Mother McAuley.  The Wolfpack finished in 2nd place, 30 points ahead of McAuley.  Individual finishers in the top 4 earned points for each team.  Freshman hurdler and sprinter Lauren Copeland led the charge for the Wolfpack by winning both the 55m Hurdles and 200m Dash.  Sophomore Leanna Brown won the Frosh-Soph Long Jump with a mark of 15’02.5.”  Earning 2nd place individual finishes were Christina Braxton (Long Jump), Farra White (Shot Put), Katie Oksas (Pole Vault) and Carla Salvato (400m Dash).  Oksas also took 3rd place in the 200m and 300m Dash, Brown finished 3rd in the 55m Dash and freshman Delia West earned 3rd in the Shot Put.  Finishing in 4th place and adding points to the board were Camille Yuen (Long Jump), Zahar Patrick (Shot Put) and Braxton (High Jump & Triple Jump).

Pack Wins Over Mother McAuley at Lyons Township

The Wolfpack had a solid night against host Lyons Township and Mother McAuley in a triangular meet on Wednesday.  The team finished in 2nd place behind Lyons and ahead of McAuley.  Taylor Shaw is starting her senior season in a dominant way, as evidenced by her wins in the 55m, 200m and 300m Dashes.  Shaw also led St. Ignatius’ undefeated 4x160m Relay team (with fellow speedsters Madlen Karnatz, Cydney Anderson and Sylvia Edoigiawerie) to victory.  Karnatz added a 1st place finish (55m Hurdles), a 3rd place finish (High Jump) and a 4th place finish (200m Dash) to her 4x160m Relay win, playing a role in earning 18 team points for the night.  Sophomore Stephanie Boulger tied the Pole Vault school record for the second meet in a row with a vault of 9’06”.  Senior Natalia Galant finished 2nd in the Triple Jump.  Third place finishes (and 2 points each) were earned by sophomore Cara Zadeik (400m Dash), junior Veronica Boswell (800m Run) and senior Katie Douma (Shot Put).  Finally, congratulations to the following 4th place finishers:  sophomore Cydney Anderson (Long Jump), junior Alana Lawton (Shot Put) and junior Taylor Homyk (Triple Jump).

IHSA Sectional Champions!!!

The Wolfpack team captured their 10th consecutive IHSA Sectional title on Saturday, winning 9 of the 12 events and qualifying two relays and seven individual performances for state.  John Murphy opened up the meet with a meet record in the 1M Diving to advance to state for the 3rd year in a row.  Leading the way for the Wolfpack on the swimming side were double event winners James Haney (200 free / 500 free) and Jaime Juarez (200 IM / 100 fly).  Jaime teamed up with Duncan Martinson, Brayden Amendola and Billy Barth to win the 200 medley relay and advance to state.  Haney pulled out a strong come-from- behind victory in the 200 free and then Jaime cruised to a victory in the 200 IM, both advancing to state.  Jaime was pushed by younger brother Jesus but came away with the victory and completed the 1-2 sweep for the Pack.  Haney was pushed by teammate Martinson in the 500 free, but pulled out the win to complete another 1-2 finish by the Pack and break the meet record in the process.  Martinson then had his chance to shine, taking first in the 100 backstroke to advance to state for the second year in a row.  Brayden Amendola won the final individual event of the day, taking the 100 breaststroke.  The 400 freestyle relay foursome of Jesus Juarez, Martinson, Barth and Amendola cruised to victory to advance to state and cap the Wolfpack victory.

The 200 free relay of Jaime Juarez, Badley Mueller, Angus Tam and Billy Barth just missed advancing to state with their second place performance in the 200 free relay.  Jesus Juarez (200 IM / 100 fly) finished second in both individual events.  Billy Barth posted a runner-up finish in the 100 free and Duncan Martinson took second in the 500 free, and established a new Fr/So school record.  Other podium finishes include Tom Dowling (200 free), Bradley Mueller (50 free / 100 back), Angus Tam (50 free), Brayden Amendola (100 free) and Max Enger (100 breast).

Pack Avenge Early Season Loss

The Wolfpack avenged their only Catholic League loss with a 59-31 victory over Loyola Academy on Friday night. The Pack are 8-1 in the CCL North and18-3 overall.

Wolfpack Defeat Ramblers

The Wolfpack got off to a good start on Saturday against Loyola. The Pack played great defense in the first quarter, jumping out to a 14-4 lead. The Pack was up 17-10 at halftime before closing out the game with a 45-36 win. Danny Moore led all scorers with 16 points. Mike McGugan tossed in 15 points and Mike Willis added 9.

Wolfpack Split Over Weekend

The Wolfpack clinched a 1st place tie with a 45-39 victory over Loyola Academy on Friday night.  Peter Ryckbosch scored a “double-double” in points and rebounds.  Brian Howard had 14 points including six consecutive free throws to close out the win.  On Sunday, the Pack could not make it back-to-back wins, losing to Notre Dame 45-44.  Ryckbosch led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Howard had a 13-point second half.  Ignatius moves to 20-4 overall and 8-1 in the CCL.

Wolfpack Top Vikings

The Wolfpack beat St. Laurence 38-27 yesterday.  Mike McGugan led all scorers with 13 points.  Mike Willis tossed in 7 points and Dylan Walsh added 6. This was by far the team's best game of the year with great bench play and good defensive efforts from Mike Payne, Nick Gargano and Sean Lynch and solid offense and defense from Brendan Downey, Danny Moore and Richard Ward.

Fast Start Ends Pack Season

The St. Rita Mustangs sprinted past the Wolfpack in a 6-3 win at Southwest Ice in Crestwood when the perennial hockey power scored four goals in the first six minutes of the opening round single elimination game in the CCHL JV Kennedy Cup tournament.  Blake Brumfield scored a late first period goal assisted by Ryan Willock before Ryan Bell scored a power play goal that halved the Mustang lead at 4-2 midway in the middle period on a play started by Will Yorke and Ryan Willock.  The maroon and gold cut further into the home team lead at 5-3 when Ryan Willock notched his third point of the game with an unassisted goal.  The Mustangs added a late tally in their 6-3 win that ended the 2011-12 season for the Pack with 7 wins and 3 ties in 21 games.

Pack Move to 17-3 Overall

The Wolfpack (17-3 overall) opened up a 46-15 lead after 3 quarters en route to a 49-34 victory over visiting Gordon Tech last Friday night.  Stephen Williams, Brandon Snower and Aaron Allen all scored 8 points.  Ignatius then traveled to St. Laurence on Monday and came away with a 44-33 hard-fought victory.  Lester Larry led all scorers with 14 points while Brandon Snower added 13.

Pack Wins in OT

The Wolfpack beat Gordon Tech 43-40 on Saturday in double overtime.  Mike McGugan led all scorers with 16 points.  Danny Moore and Mike Willis each scored 10 points.
