Pack Fall to Hersey
10/20/2011 - Frosh

The Wolfpack dropped to 9-6-3 after a tough 3-0 loss to Hersey in the first round of the Lake Park Tournament.  The Wolfpack appeared to be a man down as Hersey’s 1 or 2 touch game and aggressive play kept the Pack off-balance.

CCL Champions!!!
10/18/2011 - Soph

In the last game of the season, the Pack with a conference record of 9-0 faced Fenwick with a conference record of 8-0-1 for an all or nothing game for the CCL championship.  Fenwick got on the board first by converting a penalty kick.  In the second half, the Pack found their flow and Casey McDonald was able to loft a ball over the goalkeeper and place the ball into the net to tie the score.  10 minutes later, Mike Knight got his head on the end of a Matt Quaas corner who turned the ball home putting the pack up 2-1.  Fenwick instantly recovered making the last 15 minutes of the game as nailbiting as possible.  The Pack went on to tie the game 2-2, finishing with an overall record of 15-5-3 and 9-0-1 in confernce.  The Pack are the 2011 CCL Conference Champions.  GO PACK!!!!

Pack Stop Romeoville
10/14/2011 - Frosh

The Pack improved to 8-5-3 with a 4-1 victory over Romeoville.  After a defensive lapse gave Romeoville a 1-0 lead, Michael Vidovic scored on a rebound from a Patrick Durkin shot to even the first half.  Early in the second half Randy Martinez was taken down in the box and Kallin Khan put in the penalty kick.  The 2-1 score lasted until the game, which was originally shortened to 30 minute halves, should have ended.  Because it was still light enough to play, we agreed on the fly to play 5 more minutes.  Unfortunately for the Spartans, they not only failed to get the equalizer but gave up 2 more goals.  Ricardo Marquez scored on a beautiful long shot, assisted by Anthony DeMeo, and Patrick Durkin scored, assisted by Randy Martinez.

Pack Fall to Morton
10/03/2011 - Frosh

The Wolfpack dropped to 5-5-3 despite a good effort by all with Saturday’s 5-2 loss to Morton.  The Mustangs were quick, skilled and aggressive but the Pack gave them all they could handle until two untimely injuries hurt the attack.  Randy Martinez scored the game’s first goal on an unassisted effort but was unable to finish the first half nor return in the second.  Morton led 2-1 at half and Patrick Durkin’s inability to start the second half contributed to Morton’s possession time and eventual 5-1 lead.  Patrick returned about midway through the half and, assisted by Kallin Khan, scored our second goal.

Wolfpack Win Pool in L-W Invite
09/20/2011 - Soph

The Wolfpack participated in the Lincoln Way Invite over the last week.  The Pack started their campaign on the road against Eisenhower, winning 4-1.  Taylor Reifert opened the scoring early with a well-placed right-footed shot.  The defense shut down openings that Eisenhower tried to expose which allowed Bryan Long to score the Pack's second goal.  In the first minute of the second half, Bryan Long casually placed a ball to the foot of Casey McDonald who calmly put the ball under the goalkeeper.  Matt Quaas closed the game by scoring the team’s 4th goal.  The Pack then faced Lincoln Way East on the road, winning 1-0.  The Wolfpack were able to dictate the flow of the game and put the Lincoln Way defenders exactly where they wanted them - so much so that Jonathan Viera released a beautiful ball to Taylor Reifert who scored the opening and only goal of the game.  In the second half, the wind picked up in L-W East's favor.  Although the Pack was under constant pressure from air balls into the box, John Marks in goal was the hero of the day.  The Pack's third game was against Manteno at home, winning 8-0.  The Pack had complete control of the game from the opening whistle to the final whistle.  The team moved the ball down the sidelines through Zach Soenen and Tristan Mitchell, creating acres of space for the middle three of Jonathan Viera, Mike Knight and Matt Quass to terrorize the Manteno defenders.  At half time the Pack came in with a 4-0 advantage with a hat trick from Casey McDonald and one scored by Jonathan Viera.  The Pack put on a soccer clinic in the second half with pinpoint passes and goals that are usually showcased on TV.  In the second half, Mike Knight, Jimmy Fox, Matt Quaas and Brendan McNicholas all added to the score line.

As the Wolfpack won their group in the Invite, they were to play a semi-final game against group D winners Reavis.  The Pack came out hungry for a win and excited to set the tempo of the game.  Marco Sanchez scored first after Matt Quaas passed the ball from the outside to Marco at full speed.  The Pack played a very well-put-together game as the Pack's defense of Brendan McNicholas, John Devitt, Alex Garcia and Bruno Dacanay helped keep another clean sheet for John Marks in goal.  Matt Quaas and Casey McDonald added to the first half score line, going into the break with a 3-0 cushion. After beating Reavis, they were to face the other semi-final winners - Sandburg.  In the first half, the Pack tried to keep their composure against a very skilled and aggressive Sandburg team.  Against the flow of possession, Matt Quaas received a ball from Casey McDonald who very casually struck the ball from the 25-yard mark and placed the ball into the bottom left corner.  Sandburg continued to press but were shut down by excellent defending from Brendan McNicholas, John Devitt, Alex Garcia, Bruno Dacanay and Mike Knight.  Sandburg won two corners in quick succession which unfortuanley led to two quick unanswered goals.  The Pack went into halftime down 2-0.  The Pack came out hungry in the second half and possessed the majority of the ball, as in the first half but reversed.  Sandburg was able to score against the flow of play, making the score 3-1 Sandburg.  Matt Quaas jumped on an error by the Sandburg goalkeeper to bring the Pack back within one goal.  Sandburg added to their scoreline late in the game to end the game 4-2 in favor of Sandburg.  The Pack played a great tournament, finishing as runners-up with an Invite record of 4-1-0 and an overall record of 7-4-0.
