Last Season Recap
The Wolfpack varsity team finished out another impressive year with a 6-1 GCAC dual
record and 10-1 overall record. The team placed second in the GCAC Tournament, losing
to Loyola Academy by one point. GCAC Player of the Year Bethany Lynch and freshman
Carla O’Byrne took home first place honors by winning the singles divisions. As
for doubles, Michele DeMeo and Kate Ryan, Diane Casini and Lauren
Peterson, and Sarah Mitchell and Lauren McGowan all took second place in the tournament.
During the season the Wolfpack won the Lockport Invite and the Niles West Invite.
Also, the team took second place in both the Fremd Invite and the Lincoln Way Invite.
The Wolfpack JV team also had an impressive year with a record of 6-0 in GCAC dual
matches and overall record of 8-0. The JV team won the Marian Catholic Invite. The
team was undefeated until the GCAC Tournament when they lost to Loyola Academy by
one point and came in second place for the tournament.
At the IHSA Sectional Tournament hosted by Saint Ignatius the Wolfpack placed third
with a total of 16 points. Michelle DeMeo and Bethany Lynch won first place in the
doubles draw, beating MPA in a tight three-set battle 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, qualifying
them for the IHSA State Tournament. Carla O’Byrne lost in the third round, Kate
Ryan lost in the second round and Diane Casini and Lauren Woznicki lost in the first
round to the #2 seed of the tournament - MPA. The Wolfpack finished their season
at the IHSA State Tournament. Michelle and Bethany advanced from the first two rounds
with ease, defeating Mt. Vernon 6-2, 6-1 and Fenwick 6-1, 6-0. However, in the third
round they faced the #2 seed of the tournament – Decatur; they played well but lost
a close, three-set battle 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. Unfortunately, due to the weather, the
back draw was eliminated from the State tournament this year and so the girls did
not get the opportunity to complete any consolation rounds.
