Introduction

Welcome to Wolfpack Boys Water Polo! Since our varsity beginnings in 2002, the boys water polo team has grown from a small startup program to one of the top teams in the state of Illinois. Our goal is to help student-athletes not only reach their water polo potential, but also reach their potential as Ignatians. Players grow in terms of work ethic, dedication, and teamwork - all while having a lot of fun along the way.

The Team

We offer two levels of play (Varsity and Frosh/Soph), and we play in one of the toughest conferences in the state, the Metro Catholic Aquatic Conference, which is home to all seven IHSA boys water polo state championship teams. Our thirty-game schedule offers student-athletes plenty of experience and opportunities to hone their water polo skills. The majority of our student-athletes actually join the Pack with little to no previous playing experience, but are able to make up that deficit quickly with enthusiasm and willingness to learn the sport.

Last Season Recap

The Pack finished the 2011 season by taking 2nd place in the IHSA State Tournament. They look forward to returning to the state tournament in 2012 while also hoping to improve on 2011’s school record of 27 wins. In recent years, many members of the Wolfpack have been recognized for their achievements, both in and out of the pool, by being named to All-America, All-State, All-Sectional, All-Conference, and Academic All-America teams. In 2011, senior Mark Alvarado was Illinois Water Polo Player of the Year. He also made All-America, 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Sectional, and 1st team All-Conference (Tony Lawless Player of the Year). Senior Mike Fratto made 3rd team All-State, 1st Team All-Sectional, and 1st Team All-Conference; and senior Kevin Barth made 4th team All-State, 1st team All-Sectional, and 2nd team All-Conference in leading the Wolfpack to the IHSA 2nd place trophy.
