Current Student Courses - Rising 10th-12th Grades

Current Saint Ignatius students who are sophomores, juniors, and seniors may be eligible for the Math Advancement Summer Courses by invitation from the Math Department.  Please contact Ms. Sheila Walsh (sheila.walsh@ignatius.org) with any questions about the Math Advancement Program.

Students who need to remediate a failing grade should work with his/her School Counselor and the Assistant Prefect of Studies, Maura Maloney (maura.maloney@ignatius.org), to coordinate a remediation plan.

Any Saint Ignatius student who is entering junior or senior year is eligible to enroll in the ACT Preparation course or the Writing the College Essay course.

  • ACT Preparation

    Saint Ignatius, in partnership with Academic Approach, is offering three-week ACT preparation courses for Saint Ignatius students. Each student will receive highly customized classroom teaching from expert tutors. Twenty-four hours of classroom instruction and three diagnostic tests are included. There are twenty seats available in each class. Two three-week ACT courses are available: 10:00am-12:00pm (typically) during Session I or Session II of the Summer Program.

    REGISTRATION FOR THE ACT PREPARATION COURSE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN APRIL THROUGH A HYPERLINK ON THE WOLFPACK POST UNDER THE COLLEGE COUNSELING SECTION. QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS COURSE SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO MR. KURT V. SCHMIDT, DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE COUNSELING AT 312-432-8352.
  • College Application Workshop

    Rising seniors are invited to join College Counseling in a new summer workshop that will help students complete the Common Application, build an activities list, and effectively navigate Naviance. We will also spend time brainstorming essay approaches and unpacking how an application is read from the perspective of a College Admissions Officer.

  • Honors Algebra II/Trigonometry Advancement Program Summer School

    ENROLLMENT IN THIS MATH COURSE IS BY INVITATION ONLY.

    If you have questions, contact Ms. Sheila Walsh (sheila.walsh@ignatius.org) about the Honors Algebra II/Trigonometry Advancement Program. All of the Math Advancement Courses are six-week courses.

    This is a summer school option within the Honors Algebra 2/Trigonometry Advancement Program. This six-week course provides an opportunity for acceleration for students who have completed a geometry course and want to take Calculus in their junior or senior year. Successful completion of this course with a minimum of B- will enable students to enroll in Pre-Calculus (MA 545). Students earning a B+ or better will be placed in Honors Pre-Calculus (MA 546). Prerequisite: Algebra 1 (MA 515 or MA 516) and Honors Geometry (MA 526) with an average of A- or Algebra 1 (MA 515) and Regular Geometry (MA 525) with an A average. Students who have begun the self-study course during the regular school year are also welcome to enroll in this summer session in order to complete the course ONLY IF OPEN SEATS ARE AVAILABLE. Approval from the Mathematics Department is required for all enrollees.

  • Personal Finance Boot Camp

    The Wolfpack Personal Finance Boot Camp is intended to provide students entering their junior or senior year with a basic understanding of key economic transactions.  The course will be hands-on and will provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of budgeting, the use of credit, legal issues related to landlord-tenant relationships, and getting, keeping and succeeding in the workplace (including an understanding of taxes, benefits and workplace culture).  The goal of the course is to provide students with tools for managing the next steps in their personal, academic and professional lives.

  • Precalculus Survey

    ENROLLMENT IN THIS MATH COURSE IS BY INVITATION ONLY.

    This six-week course covers the prerequisite content from PreCalculus in order to be prepared to take Calculus in the fall. The course is intended for students who perform at an A- level (or better) in College Prep Algebra II/Trigonometry or who perform at a B+ level (or better) in Honors Algebra II/Trigonometry. Students who complete this summer survey course with a B or better will enroll in College Calculus (MA 550) in the fall and will earn a grade of “Pass” for PreCalculus. Students who finish with an A or better can enroll in AP Calculus AB (MA 549) in the fall. The grade earned from this survey class will determine placement, but it will not factor into the student’s overall GPA. Approval from the Mathematics Department is required for all enrollees.

  • SILS: Student Ignatian Leadership Seminar

    The Student Ignatian Leadership Seminar (SILS) is back! SILS will be held at Saint Ignatius College Prep on Monday and Tuesday, dates: TBD. The theme is "Ignatian Leadership: The Spark that Sets the World on Fire." Part of this robust leadership development experience may take place at the UIC campus. This summer's cohort class is limited to 30 students. Please register by Friday, June 2. SILS certification is a significant factor if you wish to hold leadership positions at Saint Ignatius in the future.

  • Two-Year Algebra II/Trigonometry Advancement Program Part 1

    ENROLLMENT IN THIS MATH COURSE IS BY INVITATION ONLY.

    If you have questions, contact Ms. Jennifer Boka (jennifer.boka@ignatius.org) for the Two-Year Algebra II/Trigonometry Advancement Program Parts 1 and 2. All of the Math Advancement Courses are six-week courses.

    This six-week course represents the first half of the Two-Year Algebra II/Trigonometry Advancement Program. It is intended for freshmen who have successfully completed Algebra 1 with a B+ (87%). Completion of Parts 1 and 2 of this program allows students to accelerate to Regular Precalculus (MA 545) and College Prep Calculus (MA 550) during their junior and senior year. Approval from the Mathematics Department is required for all enrollees.

  • Two-Year Algebra II/Trigonometry Advancement Program Part 2

    This six-week course represents the second half of the Two-Year Algebra II/Trigonometry Advancement Program. It is open only to students who took Part 1 and received at least a B (83%) and also earned a B (83%) in the first semester of Geometry.  Students who complete this course with at least a B (83%) will receive credit for completing Algebra II (MA 535) and will be placed in Regular Precalculus (MA 545) in the fall.

  • Writing the College Essay

    This one-week workshop is designed to help students write two of their college essays. The workshop includes brainstorming, pre-writing, drafting, and revising two different essays.  Students must obtain and read the book "College Essay Essentials" by Ethan Sawyer prior to class and bring it for class as a reference.
