Attendance Procedures

The parent or guardian should phone the Deans' Office 312.421.6435 between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on each day of the student's absence. Voice mail messages are NOT acceptable to report an absence. Upon returning to school, the student must present a note to the Deans' Office before school signed by one parent or guardian, stating the student's full name, date, and reason for absence.

List of 5 items.

  • Anticipated Absences and College Visits

If a student must be absent from school for reasons other than sickness, permission must be requested from the Deans' Office at least two school days in advance in writing. Neglecting to get prior permission may result in an unexcused absence.

Students are not normally permitted to extend their vacation periods with parents without being charged an unexcused absence.
  • No College Visits Allowed After the Last Friday in April

Permission for college visits must be requested in writing two school days before the visit. Failure to follow this procedure will result in an unexcused absence. The Deans' Office reserves the right to limit the number of days a senior may use to visit colleges. In general, senior students are allowed three (3) college visit days and junior students are allowed one (1) college visit day. Students are advised to plan their college visits for school holidays whenever possible. Students may not use their college visit days to extend a vacation.
  • Early Dismissals

A request for an early dismissal must be accompanied by a note from the parent or guardian with the full name, date, and reason for the request. This note must be turned into the Deans’ Office before 8:00 a.m. on the requested date. Parents are to come to the Deans' Office to pick up students. If other arrangements have been made, these should be stated clearly in the note.
  • Tardiness

Tardy students must report to the Deans' Office immediately upon arrival at school. Students arriving late but before 8:30 a.m. are allowed six tardies for the year before a JUG is issued. With the seventh tardy and every tardy thereafter, the student is required to serve a detention. Any student that is tardy twelve times will be placed on tardy probation.

If a student arrives late to school because of a doctor's appointment, he or she must present a note from the doctor upon arrival.

If a student arrives late to school because he/she is not feeling well, but without a doctor’s note certifying that student was at the doctor, it will be treated as a tardy.

Students arriving after 8:30 a.m. will receive a detention.

A student must be in school at least one-half of the day in order to participate in or attend co-curricular or athletic events after school. This applies to students who arrive late to school even if they are ill.
  • Closed Campus

Once students arrive on campus they are to remain here until the end of the school day. No student is allowed off campus at any time during the normal school hours without the permission of a Dean, or unless the student is going to or coming from a community service project. Students may leave the building at 2:05 if they have last period free. If a student has consecutive free periods to end the day, the student must present a note to the Deans’ Office before school signed by one parent or guardian indicating that the student has permission to leave after his / her last class of the day.
The following are general attendance guidelines for students here at Saint Ignatius College Prep. For a complete list of all of our policies, please consult the Parent-Student Handbook.
