Pack Win Connelly Invite at Lewis University

The Wolfpack started season strong with win at their own James Connelly Invitational held at Lewis University. Senior Thomas Fitzpatrick and junior Matthew Conroy took over the lead pack after the first of three miles on the course, with Fitzpatrick eventually taking the win in a time of 15 minutes and 39 seconds and Conroy taking second place (15:47). Senior Duncan DeProfio finished fourth (16:02), with junior Brandon Mendoza seventh (16:18) and senior Luke Turner 11th (16:35). All five top scorers set personal best times on the three-mile course. The Wolfpack scored 25 points to beat Whitney Young (54), Loyola (77), Lockport (77), Montini (137), St. Viator (174), St. Patrick (182), and Mt. Carmel (239). “Fitzpatrick, Conroy, Mendoza, and Turner made a lot of progress last track season, and that has translated to success in cross country,” said Coach Ed Erst. “And DeProfio has really developed as a swimmer—and that has translated to cross country. They ran really fast times—especially for the first race of the season. It’s early, but this race shows they are ready for real success in the Chicago Catholic League and state competition as the season develops.”
