CCL Champions!!!

For the first time in ten years the Wolfpack is champion of the Chicago Catholic League. The Wolfpack won the CCL varsity championship on Saturday over the three-mile course at Lewis University, scoring 40 points to defeat the closest contenders, DePaul with 68 points and Fenwick with 80. Low score wins in cross country. Junior Matthew Conroy was the top finisher for the Wolfpack in second place, running 15 minutes and 21.8 seconds. Also winning all-conference honors, senior Luke Turner finished fifth (15:50.2), senior Thomas Fitzpatrick was eighth (16:00.9), senior Chris Turner 13th (16:07.1), senior Duncan DeProfio 14th (16:07.6), and junior Henry Fink 16th (16:18.3). Junior Brandon Mendoza finished 24th(16:45.2). It was even a bigger day for the Wolfpack, as the team swept all four races on the day, winning the freshman, sophomore, and open races. "As far as anyone knows or remembers, it was the first time Ignatius has won all four races at the CCL championship," said coach Ed Ernst. "This group worked hard since last year to get here. If you had asked anyone in the summer before the season, no one would have picked us to win." The Wolfpack open runners (same as junior varsity) won the Chicago Catholic League Championship race on Saturday. Senior Henry Wright finished first overall, running 16 minutes and 49.5 seconds, and he was followed by senior Sean Burke in second place (17:25.9). Senior Gabe Garino took 6th (17:44.9), junior Matthew Mangan 8th (17:54.7), and senior Ronan Barron 12th (18:39.1) to complete the five-man scoring team. The Wolfpack scored 26 points to win over closest contenders Marmion (41) and Loyola (70).
