AUTHOR SPEAKER SERIES - 4.29.24

Saint Ignatius College Prep is delighted to welcome Dr. Charles Shanabruch, author of Ed Marciniak’s City and Church (ACTA 20023).
In a presentation accompanied by images, Dr. Shanabruch will discuss Marciniak’s life as Chicago’s “voice of conscience.” Marciniak’s commitment to social justice and civil rights began in earnest in 1936 at a Catholic Workers’ meeting in the library of Saint Ignatius.  Among his mentors were the nationally-known Jesuits Daniel A. Lord, S.J. and Martin Carrabine, S.J.

Dr. Shanabruch’s book explores Marciniak’s career as a journalist and activist and his critical role in the 1960s as director of the Chicago Commission on Human Relations and later as Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Development and Planning.

Please join us on April 29, 2024 for a reception in the 4th Floor Gallery of Saint Ignatius College Prep at 5:30 p.m.  Dr. Shanabruch’s presentation will follow at 6:30 p.m. and he will sign copies of his book, available for purchase. The National Center for the Laity is a co-sponsor for this event.
