A huge congratulations goes to our Varsity Football team for their win in the 95th annual Chicago Prep Bowl.
Saint Ignatius defeated Morgan Park High School 30-19 on the afternoon of Black Friday to take home their second consecutive Prep Bowl. Morgan Park trailed by just one point at halftime, but standout performances from quarterback Reid Hites and running backs Robbie Conner and Charlie Klass helped the Wolfpack pull away in the second half.
“Not many teams get to win the last game of the season,” said Coach Matt Miller. “A win in a game like the Prep Bowl is the culmination of the dedication and fortitude our student-athletes have demonstrated since our first practice.”
The tradition of the Chicago Prep Bowl dates back to 1927, pitting the champions of the Chicago Catholic League and Public League against one another. The Prep Bowl was traditionally held at Soldier Field and represented the most prominent high school football championship in the city.
Even after the IHSA introduced its own state championship playoffs in 1974, the Prep Bowl Tournament has remained a vital part of Chicago’s football landscape.
“It was always a goal of mine to participate in a historic game like the Prep Bowl,” Coach Miller shared. “And now we’ve won this thing two straight years.” The Wolfpack defeated Leo Catholic High School in the quarterfinal and Notre Dame College Prep in the semifinal to qualify for the Prep Bowl championship at Hanson stadium.
“We have twenty-five seniors who played their final football game at Saint Ignatius last Friday," Coach Miller shared. “I’m proud that their last game was a win in the Prep Bowl.”
Saint Ignatius College Prep, a Jesuit Catholic school in the heart of Chicago, is a diverse community dedicated to educating young men and women for lives of faith, love, service and leadership.
