McDonald’s USA Chief Marketing Officer Visits Ignatius
Ashley Stearns '20, President of the Saint Ignatius Business and Economics Club, offered this recap.
Morgan Flatley, the Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s USA, spoke at Saint Ignatius Friday, December 13th. At McDonalds, she is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing the implementation of all market strategy, while also strengthening partnerships with franchises, agency partners, and suppliers. Prior to McDonalds, Mrs. Flatley worked for other iconic brands such as Gatorade, Quaker, Tropicana, and Naked, where she was able to accelerate growth and create long term growth plans. She attended Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School.
Students were fascinated to hear Mrs. Flatley’s perspective on the world of marketing. Her insight and unique thought process keyed students in on how to think like marketers. A key takeaway was to always pay attention to consumer needs, while also adapting and always thinking of the next advancement. One in seven Americans will work at McDonalds, and they serve millions of people each day, so Mrs. Flatley is driven by the vast impact the brand has on America. Towards the end of her time at Ignatius, students were able to ask their questions varying from “is where you go to college important” to questions about McDonald’s coffee margins and expanding sales.
