IHSA Regional Champions!!!

In sunny and brisk autumn weather at Chicago’s Lincoln Park, the Wolfpack dominated its 2A IHSA Regional on Saturday, sweeping the top seven spots to score a perfect 15 points. The meet was run as two races, each with fewer than 50 participants from nine teams. In wave one, twin brothers Zach and Nick Kiley bided their time in the pack before asserting themselves in the the second half of the race. Junior Zach Kiley won in a time of 15 minutes and 54.6 seconds with brother Nick close behind in 15:56.0. Junior Sam Hansen, the early leader of the race, was third in the wave, running 16:15.0, with junior Theo Conroy fourth in 16:21.3. In the day’s second race, juniors Brian Moore and Henry Gilbert, with senior Colin Linnen, charged to the race lead in first 100 meters. Moore and Gilbert pulled away after the first mile, with Moore winning at the end in 16:09.1. Gilbert finished in 16:11.8, with Linnen third in 16:26.0. The final results merged the two races to produce the final order for five scoring places and medals: Zach Kiley 1st, Nick Kiley 2nd, Moore 3rd, Gilbert 4th, and Hansen 5th. The final race score gave the Wolfpack 15, Payton 58, Solorio 83, Lindblom 143, Mt. Carmel 154, De La Salle 161, Kenwood 211, Hancock 216, and Lake View 220. The Wolfpack advance to the 2A IHSA Latin Sectional, which will be held next Saturday on the same Lincoln Park course. Ranked among the top teams in the state, the Wolfpack will likely race in an informal state championship that will take place in Chilocothe, Illinois, the following week. The IHSA will not hold a state championship race at Detweiller Park in Peoria this year, concluding its state series with the sectional race. “It was a great day to run a cross country race, and we are grateful that we were able to run this season,” said Coach Ed Ernst. “Our boys are building to a big finish—even if that state championship race turns out to be a informal one.”
