Congratulations to Boys Golf for winning the IHSA 2A State Championship yesterday at Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Illinois.
The team had an overall score of 297 on Friday in Round 1, followed by a score of 288 in Round 2 on Saturday, for a combined score of 585 and winning the State Final by nine strokes over the second place school, Benton High School. The team was led by Junior, Ian Love, who had a two-round total of 141, including an incredible second round score of 68. Junior, Liam Nelson, had a two-round total of 144, including a very strong second round score of 70. Love and Nelson finished 6th overall and 7th overall, respectively, as individuals in the state final.
Also contributing to the Wolfpack's State Championship were Sophomore, Jacob Gupta (147 overall), Junior Quinn Ross (156 overall), Senior Will Sidrys (157 overall) and Sophomore Charlie Krasnewich (160 overall). The team came from behind down six strokes entering the final round on Saturday, with an outstanding team performance in the second round to secure the victory.
This is the second team IHSA State Championship in Saint Ignatius College Prep history, following Girls Water Polo's state championship in 2013, and the first overall boys state team championship.
