Following a year characterized by unparalleled team success, personal triumphs, and emotional bonding experiences which brought together the SIMUN team as a family, Saint Ignatius Model United Nations has been recognized by Best Delegate, the overarching Model UN organization for both high school and college levels, in their annual high school awards. The SIMUN team, after its 8-0 season and national championship, was one of seven teams selected for “Best Club”, the perfect achievement to cap off a historic year. The SIMUN club expects to be ranked in the national top 25 Best Delegate rankings once they release later this summer.
The SIMUN XX conference, headed by Adam Akan ‘22, Natalie Bruckert ‘22, Kayla Bruckert ‘22, and Daniel Jirgal ‘22 was also selected as one of the “Best High School Conferences”, along with conferences run by universities and well-funded organizations. SIMUN XX featured a record forty committees, hosted a thousand delegates from across the Midwest, and incorporated the most dynamic committee topics and procedures seen at Saint Ignatius. Adam Akan, Natalie Bruckert, and Annabelle Graham ‘22 were three of twenty individuals selected as “Best High School Model UN Delegates” as they each capped off undefeated performance years rife with recognition and awards. Adam Akan and Natalie Bruckert also found themselves placed on the “Best High School Club Leaders” roster, given not only their excellence in running the SIMUN XX conference in November but their commitment to uplifting less experienced delegates and devotion to SIMUN above all other activities. Nina Rinalli ‘22 also earned a selection on the “Best High School Club Leaders” list, as she acted a beacon of friendship and kindness throughout the year, personally working to get to know each member of the team and serve as a key mentor.
Finally, Ms. Diane Haleas and Fr. Patrick Mugisho S.J. were both placed on the “Best Model UN Advisors” list. For the past 23 years, Ms. Haleas’ knowledge and meticulous planning of activities, love for her students, and relentless desire to bring out the best in all those under her tutelage has been the driving force behind the SIMUN team’s outstanding performances. Fr. Mugisho’s beautiful midnight masses allowed the platform necessary for the team to undergo some truly transformative bonding experiences, and fully incorporate the love of Christ into the hearts of the delegates, motivating them to fight not just for their own awards but for the team’s overall success.
