SHARING OUR MUSIC WITH THE CITY!

Kristyn Hartman
A video production crew from the Archdiocese of Chicago came to Church of the Holy Family to capture musical moments to be shared with viewers across the Chicago area.
Why is that so significant? Because those moments will feature Saint Ignatius College Prep students and teacher Mary Ellen Schneider!
“It was a great honor to be asked to be a part of the Easter Sunday liturgy because it is the greatest liturgical celebration of the year,” said Schneider, “My students are able to use their music in service to others, and make the liturgy extra special for those who are unable to celebrate the Easter liturgy in person."

For the recording, the Bella Voce Choir and Chamber Orchestra performed Resurrection Praise a classical piece, mingling Handel's Hornpipe from Water Music in counterpoint with Lobe den Herren by Joachim Neander. The lyrics speak to Christ’s triumph over death.

The students also performed Look to the Rose, a contemporary anthem about carrying Christ’s love in our hearts.

Listening to them, you wouldn't guess they began practicing the music just four days before their beautiful performance for the cameras.

“Preparing music and recording for the Archdiocese was a valuable experience...I was forced to expand my range on the flute, and my turnaround time for pieces. It gave me insight into what it might be like as a professional musician, constantly learning new music with tight deadlines,” said Tori Garascia ’23, “God gave us the gifts of musical talents, and because of that it is our duty to share them. Assisting the Archdiocese with this gives us a positive platform to uplift and inspire others through music.”

A number of the students thanked the Archdiocese for including young people in the Easter Sunday Mass.

“The future of the Church was demonstrated through the songs about the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday, and through us young people who were singing them,” said Grace Velázquez ’23.

Samantha Steinhofer ’25 added, “Hopefully our choir will be able to do this again…and share more songs that may help others connect to their Faith."

Speaking of that connection to the Faith, you’ll be able to watch and hear members of the Saint Ignatius College Prep Bella Voce Choir and Chamber Orchestra by tuning into Cardinal Cupich’s Easter Sunday Mass at noon on ABC 7.
