One such way is the immersion trip. As we write this, Saint Ignatius College Prep has students in Mississippi, working and connecting with people there, Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam. 

While they focus on service and justice, another group of students is reflecting on both. That group spent a week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin dedicating some of their summer time to the work of Casa Romero, a retreat center that serves Milwaukee's Latin community. 

In their week of rolling up their sleeves, the students learned about homelessness, food insecurity and other issues people who live below the poverty line face.

Saint Ignatius Major Gifts Officer Emily Nash, who served as a chaperone on the trip, said, "It was a wonderful experience getting to watch and accompany students as they encountered these issues in a real way, getting to see their eyes be opened by this trip and hear them reflecting on what they were learning."

In the justice-oriented service work, our students went to a clothing donation site.  They sorted food at Feeding America.  they had dinner at St. Ben's Community Meal which feeds the homeless.

The Golden Rule of the week:  Be a friendly face for someone today.

"I think they were able to see the challenges many Chicagoans face daily in a different setting which will allow them to bring what they learned in Milwaukee to Chicago.  They return more aware and better able to see how they might be able to help here," said Nash.
