We’d like to congratulate Saint Ignatius Senior Maya Singh on a set of outstanding achievements: her election as Governor at Illini Girls State, and her victory as National American Miss Illinois Teen 2025.
This summer, Maya traveled to Charleston, IL to participate in Girls State. The week-long program run by the American Legion is designed to empower young women and educate them about the workings of government in Illinois.
Maya’s leadership abilities shone at Girls State. She was elected Governor by the two hundred participants in the program, the highest student leadership achievement. In the position, Maya will be collaborating with Governor JB Pritzker and members of his administration on developing youth civic engagement initiatives.
“I found strength in the leadership skills that I have developed at Saint Ignatius,” she shared. “I’m especially grateful to Mrs. Fahey, Mrs. Haleas, and the Model UN program for teaching me how to write impactful resolutions, run complex meetings, and advocate effectively. My platform was rooted in unity through community, ‘common sense politics’, and I was proud to weave in the Jesuit principle of Cura Personalis as a foundation for public service.”
In addition to her civic accomplishments, Maya won the title of National American Miss Illinois Teen 2025. As the state titleholder, Maya will participate in events throughout the year that promote leadership, community service, and empowerment for young women. She will represent Illinois at the National American Miss national competition.
Saint Ignatius College Prep, a Jesuit Catholic school in the heart of Chicago, is a diverse community dedicated to educating young men and women for lives of faith, love, service and leadership.
