The Cabrini Pledge: Standing with Migrants and Refugees

As we approach the most American of holidays, we are reminded of what has shaped this country from its earliest days: the gifts, cultures, and courage of immigrants. Thanksgiving invites us to remember not only the blessings in our own lives, but also the ideals of generosity and solidarity that lie at the heart of our shared Faith and our nation’s story.
This week, the U.S. Catholic Bishops released their You Are Not Alone initiative, inviting all Catholics to stand with migrants and refugees. The Jesuits of the Midwest Province have echoed this call and are encouraging our communities to participate by signing the Cabrini Pledge—named for St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, an immigrant herself and a beloved figure in Chicago for her ministry to those newly arrived in this city.

Mother Cabrini reminds us that generosity and hospitality are expressions of our deepest values. As we gather with loved ones for Thanksgiving, I encourage you to read the bishops’ message and consider joining the Church’s commitment to uphold the dignity of our migrant brothers and sisters.

We pray for peace and gratitude in your homes this week.
