NBA Ref Marc Davis '86 Featured in Jesuits Magazine

Henry Ceffalio
Saint Ignatius alumni and NBA referee Marc Davis ‘86 was featured in the spring issue of Jesuits Magazine speaking about his Saint Ignatius education.
Before becoming a referee, Marc was a basketball player—and a very good one. Marc’s name fills the Saint Ignatius record books as he ranks among the Wolfpack’s top all-time scorers. His career at Saint Ignatius was highlighted by a 424-point season at 16.0 PPG as a senior in 1985–86, the year he was co-captain and named all-conference.

Marc went on to play college basketball at the Naval Academy and Howard University and is currently president of the National Basketball Referees Association.

But even after 27 seasons traveling across North America refereeing the NBA, Marc maintains an active role in the Saint Ignatius community. “My experiences at Saint Ignatius were profound and most impactful,” he shared.

Marc’s wife, Julie Garvey ‘86, and his three children, Noah ‘22, Jadon ‘21 and Elijah ‘20, all attended school at 1076. Marc has also remained an active member of the Tolton Society and recently participated in a Business Society panel alongside fellow alums in sports and business, including ESPN commentator Michael Wilbon '76, former NBA player Kendall Gill and Chicago Sky Basketball Operations Manager, Maggie Maloney ‘14.

“The resilience is instilled,” Marc said on the panel. “And there’s a beauty of this school that is a direct reflection of the connections and the kinship. This is why alumni shout ‘Ignatius’ to me at the arenas on the road.”
