Michael Rios Joins Wolfpack as Head Baseball Coach
Saint Ignatius Athletics is excited to announce Michael Rios as its next head baseball coach. Coach Rios comes to the Wolfpack from Nazareth Academy where he has spent the last four seasons as a member of their coaching staff under Lee Milano, as both the junior varsity assistant coach and as the freshmen/sophomore head coach. As a member of the Roadrunners coaching staff, he led the F/S team to a 35-15 record across two seasons. In addition to his time on the Nazareth coaching staff, Coach Rios currently serves as a coach at Top Tier Baseball and was previously involved with Sparks North Baseball, two of travel baseball programs in the Chicago area.
Coach Rios is a graduate of St. Rita High School, where he played two years of varsity baseball under Mike Zunica and John Nee, as well as the Calumet College of St. Joseph, where he played baseball there for four seasons and was a four-year varsity pitcher under Brian Nowakowski, a former MLB draft pick. He was previously selected to Team Illinois/Central Region for the Central Region for the 2016 Senior League World Series, and was part of the summer state championship team for St. Rita in 2017. He was also part of the very first team at St. Joseph to qualify for Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs. Coach Rios is currently a junior high reading teacher at St. Celestine in Elmwood Park and was previously a student teacher at his alma mater, St. Rita, as well as an elementary teacher at St. Leonard in Berwyn.
