FOR THE FIRST TIME: AN AMERICAN-BORN POPE!

Saint Ignatius College Prep joins the world in celebrating and praying for Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost - now Pope Leo XIV.
According to Vatican News, he is the first Augustinian Pope and the first American-born leader of the more than one billion Catholics worldwide. Pope Leo has south suburban Chicago roots, and completed his Master of Divinity at Chicago Theological Union in Hyde Park. According to ABC News, "Pope Francis brought Pope Leo XIV to work at the Vatican after first appointing him in 2014 to serve as the Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru. The 69-year-old Chicago native...is seen as a diplomat in the Church." The pontiff, who was created Cardinal in 2024, greeting the world with "Peace be with you all." #AMDG
