IHSA Sectional Champions!!!

The Wolfpack tied Jones-Payton Co-op in an epic IHSA Sectional Championship at UIC Flames Natatorium. Diving duo of Sophomore Connor Gunderson and Freshman Leo Fallara kicked off the meet with first and sixth place in the 11 dive competition. Gunderson established a new 11-dive fresh soph and varsity school record with a final score of 479.55. Relay team of Sophomore Charlie Cali, Freshman Andrew Arreola, Freshman Danny Scott, and Junior Carmine Fallara were runner-ups in the 200 medley relay. Senior Captain Biko Hooper-Haviland and Junior Alistair Guth swept the 200 freestyle to score big points for the Wolfpack and both qualify for the state championships. Hooper-Haviland established a new school record in the 200 freestyle with Guth moving to #4 all-time. Junior Carmine Fallara and Andrew Arreola also maximized their positions in the 200 IM with a first and fourth-place finish. Fallara gets on the top 10 list for the first time in his career for #3 all-time and qualifies for the state championships. Danny Scott and Sophomore Christian Chora picked up second and tenth in the 50 freestyle with Scott qualifying for the IHSA State Championships by .01 of a second. Scott and Sophomore Lincoln Routier scored first and ninth in the 100 butterfly with Scott picking up a second state qualifying event, winning his first sectional title, and getting on the top 10 list for #7 all-time. Guth and Chora were second and eighth in the 100 freestyle with Guth also picking his second IHSA State qualifying event and moving to #6 all-time. Hooper-Haviland and Cali swept the 500 freestyle, both qualified for the IHSA state championships, and moved up to #2 and #4 all-time in the event. Relay team of Fallara, Guth, Scott, and Hooper-Haviland won the 200 freestyle relay with Fallara’s lead-off time achieving a top 10 all-time in the 50 freestyle. Cali and Routier held their own in a loaded backstroke field to score fifth and ninth and establish new best times. Fallara and Arreola returned in the 100 breaststroke to score second and fifth with Fallara picking up a second individual event for the IHSA State Championships. Fallara moves up to #3 and Arreola gets on the top 10 list for #8 all-time. Relay team of Hooper-Haviland, Cali, Chora, and Guth won the 400 freestyle relay with Hooper-Haviland’s lead-off time moving him to 3 all-time in the 100 freestyle. Saint Ignatius College Prep and Jones-Payton Co-op tied exactly 291-291 to become co-champions. Wolfpack Head Coach Justin Fernandez was named Sectional Coach of the Year and Michael Sprehe was named Co-Diving Coach of the Year.
