Wolfpack Place 2nd at IHSA Sectional

The Pack delivered a strong performance at the IHSA Sectional this past weekend, finishing 2nd overall as a team. In a highly competitive field, the team tied for first in total points but ultimately fell to Oak Park River Forest (OPRF) based on IHSA’s tiebreaker rules, narrowly missing out on the Sectional title. Leading the charge for the team was junior Kate Gibble, who secured a 3rd place finish in the singles bracket. With her performance, Gibble has now qualified for the IHSA State Finals for the third consecutive year—a remarkable accomplishment that highlights her consistency and experience on the court. Her determination and skill were evident as she battled through a tough draw to punch her ticket to state. In doubles play, the freshman pairing of Catherine-Grace Smith and Sophie Espaldon made an impressive postseason debut. Despite being one of the youngest duos in the bracket, Smith and Espaldon showcased poise beyond their years, advancing to the championship match and finishing as IHSA Sectional runners-up. Their 2nd place finish earned them a spot in the State Finals, a rare feat for a freshman team and a promising sign for the future of the program. With three athletes advancing to IHSA State Finals, the Wolfpack continues to build on a tradition of excellence. The IHSA State Finals will begin on Thursday, where Gibble, Smith, and Espaldon will represent the school against the best players from across Illinois.
