The focus of the Saint Ignatius Boys Tennis Program is to help players improve their skills and match-playing abilities while building teamwork and physical fitness. The goal of the coaching staff is to create a fun, hard-working and winning atmosphere that values dedication, sportsmanship, and determination. During the season, the coaches will expect the following from team members: 100% participation in practice and match obligations, demonstration of proper respect and behavior at all times and proper management of academic responsibilities. Players will need to plan other obligations around their tennis commitments. Players and families can expect clear communication and complete dedication from the coaching staff.
The Wolfpack hosted Francis Parker and came up short falling 3-1. In their first match together at #1 Doubles, Rafael Mendiola & Charles Fitzpatrick took care of business with an impressive 8-1 victory. Ignatius travels tomorrow to take on University of Chicago - Lab.
The Wolfpack travelled to Wheaton to take on St. Francis and earned a decisive 5-0 win. The #3 Doubles team of Aron Leong and Brendan Arends battled back after losing the first set 1-6 to win 6-3 in the 2nd and a commanding 10-4 win in the super breaker. Ignatius is back in action on Monday at University of Chicago Lab.
The Wolfpack took care of business with an impressive 5-0 sweep of Fenwick. Talin Bodde held off a late surge from his opponent, who forced a 7-point set tie breaker. He prevailed when it mattered, 7-4, to win the set and secure his match victory. Ignatius will take on St. Francis on Thursday away at Wheaton.
The Pack toughed out a competitive matchup against DePaul, 3-2. The pair of George Stathopoulos and Patrick Malloy won the deciding match in a gritty 11-9 third set tiebreaker at the #2 Doubles spot. The Wolfpack will take on Fenwick at home next.
