The Wolfpack Ellie Wangard was the 1st singles Champion and the team took 2nd Place overall behind a strong Fenwick squad at the GCAC Junior Varsity Championships held at XS Tennis Village on Sunday. The Wolfpack beat U-High, 3-2, in Hyde Park. Ellie Wangard deployed varied pace and solid serving to cruise to an easy win at 1st singles, 6-3, 6-1. In doubles action, Emily Mangan/Erika Lenhardt put on a show of force with a 7-5, 6-0 win at 2nd doubles, while Emilia Krylov/Mary Duffy used precision shot-making to edge out their opponents, 6-3, 6-4.
A 12-player Ignatius squad completed 36 matches in three competitive rounds against Hinsdale Central, Adlai E. Stevenson and Libertyville at the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex on Saturday. Winning matches for the Wolfpack were Delia Troy in a hard-fought singles match against Stevenson (8-7) and Ellie Wangard and Natalie Olech in doubles against Hinsdale Central (8-5). Teaming up with a player from Hinsdale Central, Natalie also won a doubles match against Stevenson (8-4).
The Pack lost a close match with the visiting Providence Celtics 3-2. Winning matches for the Wolfpack were Margaret Hughes at 1st and Mary Duffy at 3rd singles. Ellie Wangard and Anna Driscoll won an exhibition an exhibition set 8-2.
The Wolfpack defeated the visiting Nazareth Roadrunners, 4-1, at XS Tennis Village. Ellie Wangard and Natalie Olech won their singles matches, 8-1 and 8-3, respectively. In doubles, Anna Driscoll / Penny Geannopolus won 8-3, and Emily Mangan/Mary Duffy prevailed 8-5. Duffy played twice, winning a singles exhibition match, 8-2. Reiana Awad/Emilia Krylov also won an doubles exhibition match.
The Wolfpack won their match in a pro-set format against visiting Payton, 3-2. Ellie Wangard, playing No. 1 singles, edged her opponent 8-6. In doubles competition, teams of Penny Geannopolus/Emily Manga and Reiana Awad/Erika Lenhardt won their matches 8-1 and 8-4, respectively.
The Wolfpack lost to Loyola 3-2 Tuesday on the roas as Ivvy Hicks and Helena Cilella achieved straight-set victories at 1st and 2nd singles against visiting Loyola. Evie Tsokolas won a singles exhibition match in three sets.
