Founded in 1996, Saint Ignatius Chicago Rowing is a co-ed program made up of 100+ student-athletes making it the largest co-ed sport on campus. Our three teams - Novice (Girls and Boys), Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity - compete in local, regional and national regattas.

The competitive rowing season takes place in both the Fall (Aug-Oct) and the Spring (Mar-May) when Saint Ignatius Chicago Rowing competes against local high schools (Loyola Academy, Evanston High School, and New Trier High School) as well as hundreds of schools from across the country. Novice practices are held after school and Varsity practices are before school with both taking place at the Eleanor Boathouse on the Chicago River. Regattas are held on various weekends throughout the Fall and Spring seasons with some regional travel required to these events. During the Winter season (Jan-Feb), we hold indoor training and conditioning practices to increase our athletic performance for the Spring season.

Many students pick up rowing for various reasons. Some want to stay in shape during another sport's offseason while others want to try a sport with a level playing field since most come to rowing with no experience. The great news is that Saint Ignatius Chicago Rowing alumni have been very successful in the sport, producing an Olympian (Ashley Brzozowicz '00) and numerous elite college rowers at schools such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, MIT, UPenn, Columbia, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Notre Dame, Brown, Michigan, Northwestern and University of Chicago.

Saint Ignatius Chicago Rowing (SICR) is a fully self-funded, non-profit club sport which is managed by a parent board. We strive to keep membership dues as low as possible so that the sport of rowing can be accessible to all Saint Ignatius College Prep students. Approximately 25% of our rowers are on a need-based scholarship and pay partial or no fees.
