The Saint Ignatius girls wrestling program is a newer IHSA sanctioned sport that began in the 2023-24 school year. Saint Ignatius wrestling will instill the needed qualities of faith, discipline, determination and commitment in each individual, and focus those qualities into a philosophy of selflessness and giving to the school community and team, in order to achieve excellence and build a foundation for lifelong success.
Competing in her second IHSA State Finals at Grossinger Arena in Bloomington. Junior GG Garduno made history as she became the first female wrestler to place at the IHSA State Finals while becoming the state runner-up at 145 pounds to equal the feat of Saint Ignatius Hall of Famer, Pat Lukanich who was also a state runner-up in 2001 at 140 pounds. In her two day historic run, Garduno defeated Louisa Enslen of Wheaton Warrenville by fall at 2:49 after being up 11-4 in round one. Her second test on Friday also ended by fall against Taylor Sutton of East Peoria at 5:39 up 11-0 to seal her place in the final four for Saturday. On Saturday, GG was down quickly 3-0, 6-1 and even down 10-1 before pulling off an amazing reversal move and pinning Natalie Corona out of McHenry at 3:23 down 10-4. Garduno's historic run came to end in the finals against senior Natalie Beaumont of Toledo. After a hot start going up 7-0 and eventually 8-3, Beaumont charged to the lead to go up 15-10 as she ran out the clock to defeat Garduno. Congratulations to GG on her 33-3 overall record and amazing run at the IHSA State Finals!
The Wolfpack girls wrestling program made history on Saturday at the IHSA Sectional. For the first time in school history the Wolfpack has an IHSA Individual Sectional Champion as GG Garduno continued her fantastic season. Garduno took down the field in the 145 pound weight class and will be entering the IHSA State Finals for the third straight season. GG will enter the weekend as one of the favorites as she heads to Bloomington Illinois on Thursday through Saturday at Grossinger Arena.
The Wolfpack was not able to advance as a team at the IHSA Regional hosted by Rickover Naval Academy. The Pack was led by IHSA Regional Champion, GG Garduno, who is one of the favorites to advance to the IHSA State Finals. Garduno will take part in the IHSA Sectional two day event hosted by Philips on Friday and Saturday.
The Wolfpack headed to Rich Township for the Raptor Invite on Saturday. Leading the Wolfpack was GG Garduno who placed 2nd in her weight class as she moves closer state tournament time.
The Wolfpack took part in the Kelly Invite over the weekend. Junior GG Garduno continued her amazing season winning the event and defeating last years IHSA State Champion in the title match. The win moved her record to 22-1 on the year and has her slated to be the favorite for her run to the IHSA State Finals later this season. Also placing to the Wolfpack was Lila Vazquez who placed 4th in her eight class.
The Wolfpack was represented at The Women of Ironman Invite this weekend by GG Garduno. Garduno was ranked 6th heading into the national competition and ended up making it all the way to the championship against world gold medalist Taina Fernandez. After upsetting two nationally ranked opponents. Garduno couldn't take down Fernandez placing 2nd overall at 140 pounds. GG was the highest place holder for Illinois!
The Wolfpack traveled to Fenton for the Weiss Cardinal Invite on Friday night. GG Garduno won the 145 lbs. weight class and Valeria Santiago placed 4th in her division to lead Ignatius.

The Wolfpack took on Mother McAuley and St. Viator on Thursday at home. The Pack was led by GG Garduno who went 3-0 on the night and Valeria Santiago who went 2-0.
