Junior Formation

Highlights In Year Three...

The cornerstone of formation in junior year is the two-day retreat off campus. It’s called the “Road to Emmaus” because we’ve built it around the Emmaus story from the Gospel of Luke. Through creative group activities, small group discussions, prayer and Mass, students grow in connection with each other and are encouraged to discover the presence of Jesus in their journey.

During junior year, students receive protected class time to pray and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent and Lent.  They also participate in a class Mass with their families, where there’s the blessing of their school rings. Finally, this is the year to take on greater liturgical leadership roles. Groups such as the Gonzaga Society help them do that.

  • Faith and Justice Opportunities

Juniors and seniors annually have two concrete ways to put faith into action. They can attend the Ignatian Family Teach In for Justice and the March for Life.
  • Reconciliation

  • Sophomore Retreat Leadership

Members of the junior class can train to lead a sophomore retreat where they share how they’ve witnessed God in their own lives. Training focuses on small group facilitation, plus coaching in mentorship and how to tell a personal faith journey story.
  • Summer Immersion Trips

Saint Ignatius College Prep juniors can deepen their service response, and learn about leading in a community, by attending a summer service immersion trip. The week-long opportunities in places near and far offer juniors a chance to explore service, prayer and justice education.
