Student Life

School Counseling

The Jesuit, Latin Term, Cura Personalis, meaning care for the whole person, guides the work of School Counselors at Saint Ignatius College Prep. We strive to  build counseling relationships with students to foster healthy academic, social and emotional development.

School Counselors are often the first point of contact for parents/guardians and student questions. We strive to facilitate student success in and outside of the classroom.

As School Counselors we also work with students to achieve the self-understanding and self-direction necessary so s/he can live up to her/his God-given potential as a student in a Jesuit, Catholic school, as a member of a family, and as a member of the community. In addition, because Saint Ignatius is a Catholic school, the counselors in cooperation with our Formation and Ministry Department, provide each student every opportunity to grow in love and maturity in Christ.

Student Activities

Please encourage your student to get involved in co-curricular activities this year! Visit our Student Activities page on the SICP website to see all we have to offer. Being  involved on campus helps students feel connected to their school and helps to build positive social relationships. Learn more about our offerings by visiting our student activities page here.

  • Concussion Protocol

    • If a student has been removed from play for a possible concussion, per Illinois State Law, he/she can only return to play if cleared by a Medical Doctor (MD) or a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO). We strongly recommend the student sees a concussion specialist or sports medicine physician. The Athletic Training Staff will assist in a referral to a physician.
    • The physician must complete the Athletico Concussion Physician Form to confirm the Return-to-Play protocol utilized at St. Ignatius. Copies of this form, along with any other documentation, should be given to the Athletic Trainers or the school Nurse.
    • The Nurse and the Athletic Trainers will communicate when a student has a suspected concussion. The student must check in with the Nurse the next time they attend school.
    • The Nurse will inform the student’s Counselor. The Counselor will alert the teachers of the injury and any academic accommodations.
    • The student must check-in with the Athletic Trainers on a daily basis to have signs and symptoms recorded. They should also check in with the Nurse during the school day as needed.
    • Students and their parents/guardians will be provided with IHSA educational materials regarding the nature and risk of concussions and head injuries, including the risks inherent in continuing to play after a concussion or head injury. The IHSA Post-Concussion Consent Form must be signed by the student and the parent/guardian and returned to the Athletic Trainers.
    • Student-athletes with a baseline ImPACT test will be retested prior to starting the Return-to-Play Progression to ensure that equivalent neuro-cognitive function has returned. The scores will be reviewed by the treating physician and any abnormalities may result in a delayed Return-to-Play start.
    • Before returning to participate in St. Ignatius Athletics, the student-athlete must be caught up with ALL schoolwork (Academically Cleared). Students must make an appointment with their Counselor to pick up an Academic Clearance Form and have each teacher sign it to confirm that the student is up to date with all school work. Academic clearance will be determined by their Counselor after signatures are collected, and communicated to the Athletic Trainers.
