Collection Scope
Alumni, faculty, staff, and students from Saint Ignatius College Prep make up the bulk of the Archives' users. Therefore, gathering and maintaining the records of Saint Ignatius College Prep and its linked organizations is our primary goal. The wider Chicago community serves as the secondary audience. As space permits, non-Saint Ignatius College Prep, related items will be acquired. The following media types are accepted by the Archives: paper, parchment, books, scrapbooks, audio and video tapes, photographs, negatives, and film; as well as digital and electronic media.

Materials Not Collected
Archivists are responsible for separating resources that advance our collecting objectives from those that do not. All archives have a responsibility to safeguard the resources that they have amassed and make them accessible for use in research. Materials that we cannot adequately arrange, describe, provide access to, or preserve will not be indiscriminately acquired. The following are not collected by the Archives:

• Materials not included in the collection scope
• Items or collections subject to ongoing or enduring restrictions
• Copies of items stored in other archives
• Records from the local, state, and federal governments
• Reproductions of content that is already in the archive
• Collections whose provenance and origins are ambiguous or disputed
• Material that might unintentionally or knowingly put an employee’s health and safety at risk
