Harlequins
Theater at Saint Ignatius
Theater has been an important and enduring part of Jesuit education since Jesuit schools were first established in the 16th century. According to the Saint Ignatius archives, students organized theatrical groups as early as 1873, and the first documented production took place in February 1878.
In 1927, the Harlequins was established as an outgrowth of the Ignatian Players and the Saint Ignatius Dramatic Club. The Harlequins continues today, a century later, with nearly 200 productions.
We are so proud of our many Harlequins alums who went on to successful careers in theater, film and television after leaving Saint Ignatius. They include Bob Newhart '47, Tony Mockus '47, Casey Siemaszko '79, Andre Braugher '79, William Osetek '82, Nina Siemaszko '88, David Haley '96, John Mulaney '00 and Gina Rodriguez '02.
